What To Expect

What a delightfully dirty day.

Run, walk, climb, crawl—you will experience it all. With obstacle names like H2OMG and PMS (Pretty Muddy Stuff), you can expect to laugh until your cheeks hurt. But don't worry, if you get to an obstacle that's more than a challenge for you—hey, take one of the detours. Also expect safety throughout. Expect the competition to go on rain or shine. Expect not to be timed. Expect some crazy team uniforms. Expect to leave with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Now, check out the course:

Giving to the National Breast Cancer Foundation

We're proud of Dirty Girl as an exhilarating event that empowers women through camaraderie, fun and shared challenges. In the spirit of shared challenge, we're proud to donate at least 2.5% of all registration fees to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. We're excited to assist in their life-saving mission to help women in need with education, early detection and treatment. Thanks to Dirty Girl runners everywhere, in 2011 we far exceeded our minimum goal––with $50,000 going to the cause. Our goal for 2012 is to raise at least $250,000. Let the games, and giving, begin!

FAQ

How do I register a team?

To register as a team, decide what wave/start time you and your team would like to go off in and come up with a team name. Waves go off every 15 minutes beginning at 8:00 am with our only competitive wave, and our last wave goes out at 4:00 pm. Check in on facebook to get wave updates. Once you’ve found a wave that works and have a team name, each person needs to register individually and enter that info when prompted during the registration process. Waves fill up quickly, so the sooner each team member can register, the better off you are at getting a spot in that wave. Once a wave is closed, it’s closed. We can’t add more people to a closed wave for safety reasons. We are doing our best to ensure a fun and safe event; we’d appreciate your efforts as well ;)

How big/small do teams have to be?

A team can be as big or as small as you’d like. There will be some fun team category competitions including: Biggest Team, Most Creative Team Name, Best Team Themed Costumes and a few more with some fun prizes, so get creative ;)

Do I have to be in a team to participate?

No. You can participate as an individual or as a team; whatever suites you best.

Do I have to know how to swim to do the “H2OMG” water pit?

No. The water pit will be knee to waist deep and you’ll have to traverse through it. Water wings are optional ;)

What do I get with my registration fee?

In addition to the time of your life, your registration fee entitles you to a Dirty Girl tee-shirt, a Dirty Girl silhouette charm and other cool stuff like music, entertainment, and the benefit of knowing that you are helping the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the fight against cancer.

I am not in the best of shape, can I still participate?

Absolutely. The event is non-competitive and will not be timed, so there is no need to hustle to get through the course. We do recommend some light cardio a couple times per week paired with some upper body strengthening to help you get up and over the obstacles. However, you’ll have the option to bypass any obstacle that you’re not comfortable tackling.

I am pregnant/have a medical issue, can I still participate?

We may know how to put on an awesome event, but our prenatal/medical knowledge is limited. Consult your doctor before registering.

What if I can’t complete a particular obstacle?

All obstacles will be manageable. The more difficult obstacles will have varying degrees of difficulty to accommodate to different fitness levels. We would like you to try to complete each obstacle, but if you feel you can’t then you can go around.

What is the minimum age to participate?

The minimum age to participate is 14. Anyone under the age of 18 participating must have a parent/guardian accompany them to packet pick-up and the parent/guardian will sign a waiver.

Will the obstacles be the same at every location?

For the most part yes, however there might be slight variations at each event.

Can I use another person’s registration?

Yes, swapping of registrations is not a problem. The person who can no longer participate will have to log back in to their imATHLETE account (or create one if they did not at registration) and cancel their registration. They’ll then be issued a coupon code, which they can give/sell to somebody else. The new person will have to register for the event via imATHLETE.com. If you need assistance with this please email our Coordinator of Excellence, Katie, at katie@godirtygirl.com.

RACE DAY INSTRUCTIONS

PACKET PICK-UP

We ask that you show up a minimum of 1hr before your respective wave starts to pick up your race day packet*. In order to retrieve your packet, you’ll need a photo ID. Your packet will include your race bib with safety pins, and your Dirty Girl jewelry charm. Your race bib should be secured to the front of your shirt using the provided safety pins. *Race packets are only available the day of the event. Packets will not be shipped prior to event

PARKING

Parking will vary per location. Check your respective location for further info. Parking space will be limited so go green, save some gas money and carpool!

WHAT TO WEAR

We encourage you to wear anything you feel comfortable racing in– anything. Like to race in your bikini? Fine. It just has to be anything you don’t mind getting dirty. We do, however, recommend a solid pair of running shoes, towels, a garbage bag, and a change of clothes. And since dirt and sunburns don’t mix, plan ahead by packing some waterproof sunscreen.

THINGS TO BRING

Proper footwear. Leave the stilettos at home. We recommend a lightly used trail shoe with decent tread to help get you up, over, around, and through our obstacles. We’ll be collecting unwanted racer shoes after the race and recycling them.
Proper clothing. Dress for the elements.

Cash. If you feel the need to fill your belly or wet your whistle, libations and local fare will be available in our Expo Village.

Change of clothes/towel. We will have a bag check, so you can leave your change of clothes/towel with us during the race and retrieve after. If you’d like to hose yourself down and tidy-up before hitting the Expo Village and getting your party on, a rinse station and enclosed changing tent will be available.

Great attitude! This will be the most fun you have all year.
No outside alcoholic beverages or glass bottles allowed
