Meet Robin

Building her business over the last 5 years, Robin has neglected other things in her life. Its now time for her to venture out, have fun and enjoy new experiences! First up? The dirtygirl mud run! She's even recruited her daughter to train with her. What better way to get back into shape? Something fun and for a good cause!

Jitters?

Author: Robin Wilson

I’ve been thinking alot about the upcoming race on Saturday.  Haven’t been to the gym enough, haven’t let my heels heal. Oh the silly things that go thru your head when you are getting ready to take on a 5k obstacle course!

There are no jitters because I am not going to “race.”  I’m going to walk/run with a great group of women for an amazing cause.

Getting ready has consisted of making sure I’ve been getting plenty of sleep. At the moment, this is more important than the actual training and eating.  At the same time, I’ve been keeping my eating fairly clean except for a few slips here and there.  Workouts have been consistent, but I always feel like I could have done more.  Thoughts are now focused on what to eat during the actual day of the race.  I’m going to keep it simple.  A fiber protein shake and coffee before I leave the house, another protein shake when I am finished.  Add a few power bars and water to have with me and I should be good to go.

Other prep work? Having some good hard rock music to play in the car on the way there to get psyched up! Remember I am not a runner….I’m out for fun and that is exactly what I plan to do!  Working the old muscles at the same time never hurts right?

Will I Celebrate?

Author: Robin Wilson

How Will I Celebrate?

I’ve been thinking about this one.  I’ve also mentioned it to a couple folks who have been advising me on nutrition and workouts.  All tell me to stay away from the wine and chocolate when I finish and opt for a protein shake.

I think the celebration of finishing will be quite the endorphin rush. Right now it is more a celebration of getting fit and more active. Struggling thru the little setbacks that can be discouraging and knowing that there are a few others out there going thru the same thing helps me feel part of something bigger than me.  Several girl friends have joined me and we are feeling wonderfully empowered!

Ok…so back to how I will celebrate.  New shoes?  New workout clothes? Big meal and sweet treats?  Jewelry?

It will be an inner celebration. Happy dance in my heart knowing I was able to step up to the challenge.  I did it with the help and support of some very special people. For that I am truly thankful.  Not everyone has the support they need when they are trying to get fit.  How many women will be at this fun run?  We are all there to support and celebrate each other!

So…if you see me flying around on cloud 9, you’ll know why! ;-)

Tell me how you plan to celebrate your victory of getting over that finish line!

Gettin’ Ready

Author: Robin Wilson

It’s already August 4th. Only 5 weeks away from the Dirty Girl Mud Run in South Wales, NY!

I’ve been getting ready…but have already experienced a couple setbacks. However, I will NOT be discouraged. Normally, this kind of thing would have slowed me down and cause me to back out.

But this is too important. I will prove to myself that I can do it!

Ok…what I’m doing to get ready…
+ Mind set. So incredibly important.
+ Proper diet.  Cross between Body for Life & Metabolic cooking.
+ Working out
+ Collecting friends who want to do this with me

What am I doing for my workout?

I am not a runner, haven’t been for over 20+ years.  So this is really something when I tell folks I’m doing a 5k mud run. I will run, walk or crawl, but I will finish it.

Cardio was attacked first.  Started on the treadmill and decided I could use something a bit more intense.  I faced my fear and climbed up on the dreaded elliptical. I made a bargain with myself.  I’ll do 3 minutes then get off. I made it 5 minutes.

I’ve also added in strength training. Not sure if any of you have heard of Scooby’s Home fitness and Bodybuilding Workouts, but this is the next best thing to having a personal trainer.  I’ve taken everything down to my own level and working his program.

So…that’s me, gettin’ ready.  How are you getting ready?

I’m Going To Run!!

Author: Robin Wilson

Ha! Ok…I’m going to run and walk and maybe even crawl thru mud and obstacles! And Im going to have FUN! (no really) I used to be an avid runner 20 some years ago. Do I want to become a runner again? No. Do I want to get back in shape?

Oh Yes!

I’ve been thinking of doing this for a few months. Yup…just thinking, then the thought went away. Knowing that I needed something to push me get myself back to the gym and get healthy again. I needed a commitment.

I approached a couple friends to see if they’d be interested in joining me, but we are all so busy with our businesses, the last thing we all wanted to think about was doing a 5k run.

Well… something happened on the day I decided to do it! My gym called me!! Yes they called me!! No…not because my check bounced but because they wanted to know where Id been?! Why I hadn’t been there in such a long time? Who’s gym calls them to see where they’ve been? Not one Ive ever belonged to before. Hmmmmmm the universe telling me to get my butt back to the gym.

So…this is my entry back to fitness. A wonderful fun nudge to get me there.

It all fell into place and here I am. I’m going to do my very best to finish, without sucking wind at the end and looking like a sorry old woman!

It’s begun! I’ve been hitting the gym everyday, noticing changes during each visit. Even managed to talk a few girlfriends into coming and doing this with me!

What an amazing place to start! A mud run, with girl friends, bringing awareness and support to breast cancer! I am honored and thrilled to be asked and to be part of it!

Here we go!
