Meet Kristen

Kristen thrives in a world of competition and new challenges that push personal limits. As a passionate multi-sport athlete she’s ready for her next challenge to get her back on the pavement. Kristen will train for the Dirty Girl Mud Run on the streets of Denver listening to the beats of Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lil John.

I Have The Pictures To Prove It!

Author: Kristen Sonsma

Wow what an event and experience during the Dirty Girl Mud Run in Colorado this year. Check this out…

MY REASON: I got a group of ladies together because honestly I was looking for something fun to do and thought it would be great to have some fun women to do it with!

THE RESULT: Who would have thought it would have brought back competitive memories of a National Soccer Championship with my soccer ladies or team camaraderie from new friends to get over ‘THE WALL‘ (shown below). It may look easy, but let me tell you when you are 5’3” events with some height in it aren’t ever easy.

~Although I kind of think it would make a pretty awesome Dirty Girl Mud Run Postcard~

THE MEMORIES: Let me start with what I can’t show you. If you can believe it we did end up with some photos I can’t post online (Thanks Mandy)!!! We also didn’t catch any photos of the variety of awesome team outfits that we saw, the mud throwing, or awesomely inappropriate mud hand prints on our team attire. BUT, I do know that when we stopped to ask two farmers on a deserted path for directions to the race their dog ran into my car and I do know that we completed ALL the course elements and I do know we were very muddy when we ended and that everyone had a great time!

If you know me…I’m ALL ABOUT creating memories. You have to live your life every day and this for me is just another example of that. You never know when obstacles might come your way, but wherever there is an up….there HAS to be a down! Who knew we had someone on our team was afraid of heights. But we did this as a team and finished as a team!

I’m glad to say, “See you next year in 2012…Bring it!”

Secret To My Motivation!

Author: Kristen Sonsma

YIKES – The Dirty Girl Mud Run in Colorado is about a month away.

All the chatter about the Wisconsin race on Facebook and excitement of the teams is only adding to my own excitement and anticipation of what’s to come!!!  I just saw the picture of the Barn Burner…Are they for real? I saw a few other posts about restrooms breaks (I mean that’s a great question), and about our post game drink (ALSO, a great question)!

What am I most excited about? I’m excited to get a bunch of my female friends together to do this event. I will enjoy some laughs in the process. Enjoy the moments where we need to push each other across the line. And most of all, I’m excited about the memories we will create by participating in something new TOGETHER! Come on, you know how we women get when we all get together with our girlfriends. We laugh louder and talk A LOT more.

Time passes us all by too quickly and it becomes harder to find the moments to enjoy  quality time with friends and family in the process. Doing this event isn’t just about crossing the line. For me…it’s about enjoying all the interesting challenges from the start to the finish.

What am I worried about? Some of you might refer to me as a frequent tweeter or heavy user of Facebook :) (@KristenSonsma) If I’m going to be honest with you, I have been pondering ways I can tweet, share photos, and encourage others to participate in fun events like this without ruining my phone on the obstacles and of course the mud portion. Any thoughts feel free to leave them in the comment section below…I’d much appreciate your ideas!

I’m sure there are a bunch of tips and tricks you might read about on how to best TACKLE some of the challenges. I think I am more excited about the experience of the unknown, the excuse to get back into shape along side a few friends, and DEFINITELY the laughs along the way.

I’m always looking for new motivation, what are you most excited about?

Putting All The Pucks In The Net!

Author: Kristen Sonsma

Your life has changed. You now have responsibilities, a career, family, and life just seems to always throw a million curveballs. I hear myself saying these things to myself and wonder where it takes me. I’ve come to realize that the only thing that truly gets in the way between me and my goals, dreams, and ambitions IS ME!

I am choosing to do the Dirty Girl Mud Run along with many others to take that next leap forward. It’s about trying something new, pushing ourselves as women past the impossible, and allowing ourselves to really experience the joy of LIVING! It’s about putting all of our pucks into the net. As the game gets going, we can easily be side tracked by our opponent. The opposing team might even try to commit a foul to hold us back. I believe that life isn’t about putting just scoring one pick, but putting many pucks into the back of the net.

The greatest benefit for me about the Dirty Girl Mud Run is the ability to run along side a few of my friends. While the challenge isn’t to just finish, I’m excited to participate in an event that will be more than just running on the pavement. As a multi-sport athlete I actually enjoy the philosophy of ‘No Pain, No Gain.’ What’s not to love about obstacles along a path? I mean they come across your everyday life anyways, right?

So where do I go from here? The first step I sometimes find to be the hardest. Once I have started to train it becomes easier to get into a groove. Until I even start….I catch myself dreading the inevitable workouts ahead. What doesn’t break you will only make you stronger!
